About Jugey Cakes Baking

Our story

Jugey (pronounced joo-jee) Cakes Baking is a home-based bakery in Providence Forge, Virginia. The bakery was founded in 2019 by Julia Henby and is run by her and her husband, Joe Damis. When they moved to New Kent County, Julia quickly realized that the amount of cakes she was baking for “fun” were going to result in deteriorating health for both her and Joe. One day, she went door-to-door in her Kentland neighborhood and offered cupcakes. From there, a business was born creating treats for not only her neighborhood, but the entire county. In a few short years, JCB has grown from small cake orders, to serving weddings, teaching classes, and serving up all sorts of pastries.  JCB specializes in custom buttercream cakes and cupcakes for special and everyday occasions, but the sky is the limit when you work with us.

The name Jugey Cakes comes from Julia’s childhood nickname. What started as “Julia” turned to “Juju” and then from there we landed at “Jugey”.

Our ethos

Memories are made around a table. Our mission is to sprinkle joy at every occasion. At JCB, we put flavor first, and that’s why you won’t find any fondant or royal icing on the menu. We strive to create cakes and cupcakes that look beautiful while tasting delicious. Each cake is made from scratch, made-to-order, and made with love (and let’s be real, sprinkles). When we bought our home in Providence Forge, we took one look at the kitchen and instantly knew this is where we belonged. You won’t find us in a storefront because we know the best part of us is our little slice of home. Baking connects us to our roots and to our family, and we’ll always strive to bring that same feeling when you order with us. If there’s one word that comes up in every creative conversation, it’s community. Without the cake lovers and cake eaters, we wouldn’t exist. At every turn, we want to embed ourselves in and care for the community that’s welcomed us in New Kent.

Meet your baker

Hi, I’m Julia. I wear a lot of hats around here, but my favorite hat is the one that says “baker” on it. I grew up shadowing my Italian grandmother in the kitchen, and as an adult I’ve always wanted to emulate the love I felt in her little house on the hill. When I moved to Virginia in 2016, I found myself craving a creative outlet. I turned to the familiar and began watching a LOT of YouTube videos of cake decorating. What started as a hobby quickly grew to a passion. I love experimenting with flavors and colors. I like my cakes to be a reflection of my personality, which is to say, I like my cakes to be a little extra.

By day, I’m a Technical Program Manager. By night, I’m covered in powdered sugar watching reruns of bad reality TV and obsessing over the perfect color of a macaron. When I’m not at the office or in the kitchen, you can find me at Don Miguel’s eating fajitas, doing powerlifting workouts, or sipping wine at one of our awesome local wineries.

Meet Joe

Joe’s roles include: Chief Transportation Officer, Director of Dish Sanitization Operations, Manager of Baked Good Quality Assurance, Lead Technical Advisor for unit conversions.

Truly the jack of all trades, Joe is what keeps JCB organized and on track. When you order a cake delivered, you’ll more than likely see his big blue truck pulling up. When he’s not supporting the business, Joe’s an Aerospace Engineer. In his down time (which is rare), you can find him in the gym or at Wegmans.
